Safety and Security
At Kids1st! the safety and security of our children is a top priority! We want parents to rest assured that, as you leave your children with us, they will be well taken care of, prayed for, and loved as we share the love of Jesus with them.
To assist us in ensuring the protection of your children, please become familiar with these policies. As always, if you have questions, please contact us.
General Guidelines & Procedures concerning signing-in a child:
As parents enter a ministry, they expect to find not only a spiritual sanctuary, but also a safe haven from the rest of the world. We want to do all we can to assure you that Kids1st is a safe place. As part of these efforts, we are pleased to introduce a new security system for our children's program.
This check-in/out system utilizes our ACS database and eliminates the need for parent signatures, binders, and long lines. There are several check-in stations located throughout the church. These stations consist of a touch-screen monitor and label maker that allow parents to access their family's data by entering the first few letters of their last name. Parents then have the ability to select which children they are signing in and which service they will be attending. This system also features an option to note any important information like food allergies or special needs. After all selections are made, two security labels, one for both the parent and child, are printed with random numbers. Parents can complete this process (which should take around 30 seconds) at anytime on Sunday morning rather than waiting for each service to dismiss. Parents of children age 3 and younger will still receive a pager, and the pager number will be written on both labels upon the child's arrival to their classroom. At check-out, your child's teacher will match each child's security number to the one found on the parent's badge, to ensure a match prior to releasing.
General Security & Safety Guidelines:
Sick children can expose other children and workers to illness. Children should not attend class if they show signs of any of the following:
- Any rash or skin condition, unless deemed non-contagious by a physician.
- Cold symptoms such as runny nose, green phlegm, congestion or cough; communicable diseases, etc.
- Cuts oozing with liquids.
- Diarrhea or vomiting within the last 24 hours.
- Head lice.
- Symptoms of conjunctivitis or pink eye, such as colored discharge from the eye or red, puffy eyes.
- Temperature of 100 degrees or higher.
If parents are needed during the service, you will be alerted by pager (if nursery-kindergarten age), by the ID# displayed on the screens in the worship center, or by a Kids1st! staff member.
It is important for the safety of the children for Kids1st! to adhere to strict teacher : student ratios. Kids1st! leaders will work with teachers to ensure that we are following these ratios.
If your child is in the Nursery-Twos class, please make sure to label all items (diaper bags, sippy cups, bottles, etc.)
Medications & Minor Injuries:
The policy concerning injuries within Kids1st! is that we do not administer medications for any reason. If a child gets a scrape or a cut, we will wash the wound and put a band-aid on. If there are other injuries requiring further treatment, we will alert the parent.
Snacks:
If a teacher is serving a snack during the course of a service, he or she will post this information on the door to the classroom. Please check the list and alert the teacher if your child has an allergy so that the child’s nametag will indicate that allergy.
We will not serve snacks brought from home during the course of the class time; however, we will distribute the snack DIRECTLY to the parents of the children in the class at the end of the service time.
Each person who works within Kids1st undergoes a national criminal background check, and he or she attends Basic Trainings offered by Kids1st. There are additional trainings offered throughout the course of the year, including CPR/First Aid that our servant volunteers are encouraged to attend. All Kids1st staff and volunteers will wear specialized nametags and lanyards that easily identify them as a member of the Kids1st team.
