Local Outreach

Family Promise

Family Promise consists of host churches who open their doors for one week per quarter to the families that are in the network. The churches provide dinner for the guests, a place to sleep, a quick breakfast, and a bag lunch for the next day. The Network provides transportation to and from the host congregations and the Day Center. The atmosphere provided gives them the feeling of safety and caring that can make a huge difference in their circumstances.

Family Promise is a program that helps families stay together while they are without a home which prevents them from being split up at shelters or living in their car. They have a Day Center where the families can go during the day and use the address for job applications. The program also has requirements to help the adults get a job, transition back into a home and take responsibility for themselves.

Crossroads will be a host church for one week at a time, Sunday evening through the following Sunday morning. Guests will each have their own room in the NexGen building. They will arrive at 6:00 pm each night, eat dinner, clean up and have time to play with their children and fellowship with volunteers. Guests are picked up by a volunteer in the Family Promise van each morning at 6:30 am.

Host Responsibilities

Meal Host and Fellowship 6:00-8:00 pm

Be ready to serve dinner at 6:15. You should allow the guests to serve themselves and eat with them. Clean up responsibilities will be assigned to the guests as the program requires. There will be lounge areas set up in the NexGen building with games and a TV to fellowship with the guests and play with their children.

Evening Host 6:00-8:00 pm

This person would be available to make sure the Dinner Host arrives and answer any questions they may have. They will also be available to answer questions the guests may have during the time the dinner host leaves and the overnight host arrives.

Overnight Host  8:00 pm - 6:30 am

Rooms will be available for Overnight Hosts. Ideally two people should stay each night. You should arrive by 8:30 and you may fellowship with the families. Guests should retire to their rooms by 10:00 pm. Make sure the guests are up in the morning and ready to leave at the designated time.
