John and Kerry Cox

After 24 years of married life, two adult children and many foster children, John and Kerry Cox arrived in Puerto Rico with their adopted son Jaymin (age3) in 1991. John had been an automotive machinist for 15 years and then pastor of a church for 8 years in North Indiana.

Grace Ministries International had given them the job of resurrecting a 140 bed youth camp that had fallen into disrepair and almost all but ceased to function as a Christian camp. They learned Spanish by being immersed in it and developed a team of committed Christian Puerto Rican leaders to help them do programming. After ten years, their daughter and son-in-law (Jon and Theresa Marshall) came and took over the camp work. John and Kerry moved into a local barrio and are developing a very informal house church out of their home. They hold Sunday morning Sunday school and Church meetings with midweek services for children and youth, however the work continues day and night as they minister on a very practical basis to teens and adults with food, refuge, homework, car repair and a safe haven in a poor and sometimes very unsafe neighborhood.

The Coxes have also been mom and dad to 7 Puerto Rican kids (the longest was with them 9 years, the shortest 3 months). John is now in his 60's and Kerry not far behind. The Lord still has us here in the Barrio and continues to use us even in with all our weakness and shortcomings. There is still work to do here and they will continue to do what can be done as the Lord enables.
