NavajoUnemployment at 43% . . . . 56% living below the poverty line . . . . 42% living in homes with two rooms or less . . . . many homes have no electricity or indoor plumbing . . . some even have dirt floors. Sounds like a third world country, doesn’t it? Believe it or not, that's what life is like on a big portion of the Navajo Indian Reservation in the American Southwest. In spite of these hardships, the Navajo people are very respectful, friendly people who are spiritual and peaceful.
On July 10th, a missions team from Crossroads will travel to the Reservation and show God’s love to the Navajo people, only 15-20% of whom are Christians. The group will stay in a dorm owned by the United Methodist church and will cook their own meals. They will work with the pastor of a Methodist outreach congregation church on the reservation and do home repairs for the Navajos. During the week-long trip, we will have an opportunity to worship with the Navajos and visit nearby cultural sites.
It’s hot, dry and poor on the reservation, but it will be the most meaningful week you’ve ever spent. Jesus ayóó 'áshó ní! (Navajo for “Jesus loves me, this I know”)
Trip Dates: July 10-18, 2010 Approximate Cost: $1,000 per person Team Leader: Beth Keasler bkeasler@wcsr.com
